Chamber Members Step Up
In the face of
a very challenging
economy, members
of the Central
Vermont Chamber
of Commerce
have demonstrated
their serious
commitment
to the future,
to their neighbors,
and to the
community.
Five months
into a year that
has wreaked havoc
on revenues,
receivables and
budgets, members
are finding ways
to continue membership
and support business
programs. Chamber
President Bob
Lord, Jr. said
he and directors
are extremely
thankful and
view that trust
as a personal
responsibility.
"As of May
31, Chamber membership
revenues are
within one percent
of this time
a year ago," said
treasurer Tim
Ross. "We're
very appreciative."
Directors
approved an aggressive
budget in December.
They pledge to
continue shop
locally efforts,
promote tourism
and provide additional
business networking
opportunities
even if revenues
dipped. "The
board felt it
needed to do
everything possible
to keep dollars
in the local
economy and attract
new ones," Lord
said. "and that
the recession
would be the
worst time to
cut back."
Ross said
the response
from members
has been tremendous,
and non-members
are stepping
forward as well.
Vice President
Steve Gilman
said mixers -
business after
hours networking
events - are
being held every
other month the
remainder of
the year, an
increase over
last year. "People
are more focused
than they were
before, less
social chat and
more business
talk," Gilman
added. More....

May Mixer Provides Networking!
More than 50
members and friends
of the Central
Vermont Chamber
of Commerce used
a two-hour gathering
in the Chamber
conference rooms
to make and renew
business contacts.
Presented courtesy
of A Wireless Solution,
the combination
business and social
event was more
focused on creating
business relationships
than usual. "That's
a positive," said
Chamber President
Bob Lord, Jr.
Vice President
Steve Gilman agreed. "It
was good to see
people actively
seeking out those
they didn't know." He
said mixers - business
after hours networking
events - are being
held every other
month the remainder
of the year.
"People are more focused than they were before,
less social chat and more business talk," Gilman
added. "Members have asked us for more of these
opportunities, and we are going to provide them."
Justin MacDonald,
owner of A Wireless
Solution, made
the trek from Albany,
New York, to attend
with local store
manager Mark Dudley.
MacDonald said
customers will
receive personal
service and assistance
when selecting
wireless components
at the store on
the Barre-Montpelier
Road. In addition,
he noted Chamber
members receive
a 25 percent discount
on accessories.
As part of the
formal program,
Gilman, who served
as master of ceremonies,
drew four business
cards to give the
group a brief "commercial." More... |
