Transition to 2009 - Annual Meeting

"I cannot think of any other time when belonging to, and
participating in, an organization like the Chamber has been more important. Because of the uncertain economy, it is imperative that we all stick together, help each other, buy locally when we can, and be a resource for each other."
So began the tenure of the new Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce President Robert Lord, Jr. as he addressed more than 120 members and friends of the organization at it's annual breakfast.

Local Option Taxes
Resurfacing in 2009
In recent years, voters have rejected a variety of local option taxes. This year, Barre City briefly considered a business personal property tax or a business registration fee before simply including increased funding for economic development within the municipal budget. Central Vermont Visitor Guide to be re-printed.
Central Vermont Visitor Guide Reprinting of the regional visitor guide will be this spring for a summer distribution. The travel industry continues to hold its own, and Central Vermont has an abundance of afordable options for its visitors so its imperative to stay in the forefront. Be sure to get in on this opportunity. Content is determined by advertisers, so don't be left out! Get pricing details.

According to Vermont Department of tourism, in 2007 visitors made an estimated 14.3 million person trips (each individual in a travel party spending one or more days in Vermont) to Vermont for leisure, business or personal travel. Direct spending by visitors for goods and services totaled over $1.615 billion.
Central Vermont must get its share of these dollars. Distribution of the Visitor Guide is intended to pull visitors off the interstate and into our region. Get the media details now or call the Chamber at 229-5711. Don't be left out!
Central Vermont Community Profile
The Community Profile is under way for the 2009 edition. It's 100 pages of town by town and regional demographics as well as the service directory make it a well used publication. It is distributed to businesses and town officials throughout the region. The 2008 edition can be viewed online here. Upcoming Programs and Events
Watch for more information on the Chamber's Legislative Breakfast scheduled for March at the Capitol Plaza. In April the Canadian Club will provide the venue for the Annual Raffle and dinner, and May will bring the season's first golf tournament at the Barre Country Club.
The Leadership Committee is working out details for additional networking opportunities, so watch for word on those!
