Mad River Glen and Sugarbush

One of the great lures of Vermont is its extraordinary range of recreational activities. The variety is as startling as the pleasures are endless. In the air, down the mountains, along the back roads, on the water, Vermont offers diversions and challenges that engage the mind and restore the body, regardless of skill level or age.

And then there's the ski area that boasts "Ski it if you can." Mad River Glen is touted as a "skier's mountain," a mountain where trails are narrow and twisting, a mountain where natural snow reigns supreme, a mountain that will test the limits of every level of skier.

Cross Country Skiing

But there's more! There are four cross country ski touring centers. There are sports centers offering indoor and outdoor tennis, racquetball and squash, saunas, steambath, Nautilus, aerobics, massage, swimming and more. And all of it sits on your doorstep, within easy reach, when you set out from the Mad River Valley and Sugarbush.

If you're on a tight budget, or if some members of your party don't ski, why not consider staying in the city and driving to the slopes. The cities of Barre and Montpelier are just 40 minutes away and, in the city, winter is "off season. Visit the theaters, shops, and museums of Barre and Montpelier while enjoying rates starting at $35 per night (for two people).
