Beyond the Mad River Valley Tours...

 

Mad River Valley to Middlebury Loop

Approx 110 miles

Points of Interest: Middlebury: Vermont State Craft Center, Sheldon Museum, Middlebury College Museums. Begin in Warren. Take Route 100 south. Past Rochester turn right onto Route 73 west. Continue on Route 73 through Brandon. Seven Miles down the road turn right onto Route 30 north. In Middlebury(14 miles) turn right on the square onto US 7 south. Four miles south of Middlebury turn left onto Route 125 east. A mile down the road turn left onto route 116 north. Outside of Bristol (12 miles) turn right onto Route 17 east. Past Bristol the adventurous can return to Warren Via the Lincoln gap. (a sign marks the right hand turn) The less hardy can stay on Route 17. Don't miss the right hand turn where Route 17 splits with 116. From that point its 16 miles over the Appalachian Gap to the intersection of Routes 17 and 100 in the Valley.

 

Mad River Valley to Burlington Loop

Approx. 90 miles

Points of Interest: Burlington: Fleming Museum, University of Vermont, Lake Champlain Ferry Crossings, Waterbury Center: Cold hollow Cider Mill. From Warren Take Route 100 north. In Waitsfield turn left onto Route 17 west and go over the mountain. At the "T" seven miles from the top of the mountain turn right onto Route 116 north. In South Burlington (25 miles) to return home you turn right onto US 2, but take the time to go into the Burlington/Winooski area to see urban Vermont and the view of Lake Champlain. Leaving Burlington /Winooski take I-89 to get you out of town but reconnect with US 2 at the Richmond exit. (You didn't come to Vermont to drive on the interstates.) In Waterbury you'll reconnect with Route 100 south. Leaving Waterbury don't miss the right turn at the "Feed Bag" and return to The Valley via Route 100 south.

 

Mad River Valley to Lower Champlain (Rutland) Valley Loop

Approx 125 miles.

Points of Interest: Proctor: Proctor Marble Exhibit, Middlebury : Vermont State Craft Center, Sheldon Museum, Middlebury College Museums. Begin in Warren. Take Route 100 south. Past Rochester turn right onto Route 73 west. Continue on Route 73 to Brandon. In Brandon take US 7 south. One mile past Pittsford bear right onto Route 3 south. In Proctor there is a stop sign that comes up quickly after a sharp left turn in the road. Be Careful. Continue on Route 3 to Center Rutland where you turn right onto US 4 west. In a half mile, you may either stay on US 4 (4 Lane) or take Route 4A (2 Lane). Take either of these to Castleton. In Castleton, turn right onto Route 30 north. In Middlebury (27 miles) turn right onto Route 125/US 7 south. Four miles south of Middlebury turn left as route 125 separates from US 7. Take 125 up the mountain. As you pass the Waybury Inn in Ripton (on the left hand side) it may look familiar from a certain TV show. Look for the sign for Texas Falls on the way down the mountain. Make a left and stop and see the falls. Route 125 ends in Hancock where it reunites with Route 100. Turn left and take it north to return to The Valley.
