Club History and Philosophy

First in Fitness and First in Fitness Racquet and Swim Club are private clubs with admittance being restricted to paying members, guests of members paying a guest fee or using a guest pass, and non-members participating in selected club activities. The purpose of this is to cultivate a "club spirit". By "club spirit" we mean a place where members feel that they are a permanent and integral part of a group: attached, interested and committed to the club, its functions and its activities.

Through the years the Clubs membership has grown to over 3000. Currently there is a staff of 110 people, including approximately 15 full time staff. Our focus has reflected the needs and interests of the community. We offer two large multipurpose clubs providing both recreational and fitness components.

First in Fitness is committed to being the premier health and recreation organization in Vermont, providing each member with a safe, friendly and professional environment in which to maintain a positive lifestyle.
