Montpelier, the birth place of Admiral George Dewey, has been a sea town without shores since the 1800's. The ships that have carried our City's name, served our country well, achieving highest honors, both above and beneath the waves. Montpelier is proud of its Naval Tradition and those who have served on them.

The first U.S.S. Montpelier was a German ship that was seized in 1917. It provided logistical services to the Navy by transporting troops and supplies during World War 1.

We are located on the Second Floor of City Hall (39 Main Street) in the City of Montpelier, the Capital City of Vermont, U.S.A. Come in and experience our Naval History of the ships that are named Montpelier. We are open year round during regular business hours and if you need assistance, just ask anyone in City Hall. You are welcomed to stay overnight in our beautiful City.

A new video legacy of the three ships named "Montpelier" is now available on a 60-minute VHS tape. The tape can be ordered from George Walker, museum co-director, for $25 plus S&H. Call 802-828-0622 for information or to place an order. Preview the tape via internet. (Requires Real Player.)
