The Vermont Historical Society is a not-for-profit, membership-supported organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Vermont history. It operates a library and museum, has an active publishing program, and sponsors special events.

The Museum and Library are currently closed for inventory, renovations, and relocation. The library will reopen in June 2002 at the new Vermont History Center in Barre, VT. The museum will remain in the Pavilion Building in Montpelier, but with much expanded exhibit space, which will house a permanent exhibit. It is scheduled to reopen in late fall 2002.

The vhs offices, museum, and library are located on the first floor of the Pavilion Building at 109 State Street next door to the Vermont State House in Montpelier. Coming for a visit? Membership -The Vermont Historical Society is a private, membership-supported
organization. We need your help to keep history alive in Vermont. As a
member you will enjoy certain benefits while helping to preserve Vermont's
unique heritage.

Museum Shop -The museum shop is located in the museum at 109 State Street in Montpelier.
Sales items in the store include books on Vermont history, travel, and
genealogy; historic and modern maps and guides; puzzles, tee shirts, tote
bags, and a variety of small gifts and souvenirs. The store is open the same
hours as the museum. members receive a 10% discount.

Publications -The Vermont Historical Society offers its members two publications: the
scholarly journal Vermont history and a newsletter featuring a calendar of
VHS events. In addition, the Society publishes books on a variety of Vermont
topics.

Tuesday-Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 noon - 4 p.m.
Closed Mondays, state and federal holidays

Admission to the museum: $3.00 adults; $2.00 seniors and students; $9.00
families; members, children under 6, and school groups free.
library use: $5.00/day, members free.
